Our commitments start with people like you
Your support allows Cook Children’s to remain on the leading edge of pediatric health care, and empowers every member of our team to uphold our Promise: Knowing every child’s life is sacred, we promise to improve the well-being of every child in our care and our communities.
You can feel our culture in moments big and small and in times of celebration and sadness.
It’s in moments that could simply brighten a day or change a child’s whole life.
Our commitments
Seeing the world through your eyes
We accept and value every person for who they are. We empathize with their unique circumstances and look for ways to meaningfully connect.
Embracing togetherness
We’re all in it together–families and communities included. We believe in collaboration, knowing the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Finding moments of magic
Our goal is to add a bit of magic to the moments that matter–both big and small. We all create special experiences without even knowing it, but as a commitment, we can look for even more ways to do it deliberately.
Imagine walking into a hospital with your child’s hand in yours. You’re worried, maybe even scared. Everything feels new, unfamiliar and overwhelming. Your child looks up at you with wide eyes and whispers, “Am I going to be okay?” You try to stay strong for them, even though your own heart is racing.
Now imagine being greeted by a kind smile, someone who looks you in the eye and says, “We’re so glad you’re here.”
That moment changes everything.
At Cook Children’s, we call this commitment “seeing the world through your eyes.” It means we work to understand what families are going through, so they know they’re not alone. We listen, we notice and we care for each child and parent as people first.
Sometimes that looks like a nurse organizing a game of NERF Dart Tag with a child on the Hematology and Oncology unit who might be feeling lonely.
Sometimes it’s a service dog visiting a child who misses their furry best friend at home.
It might be a chaplain offering a quiet prayer with parents before their child goes back to surgery.
Or, it’s a neonatal intensive care unit designed with families in mind, where moms and dads can stay overnight with their new baby.
These moments may feel small, but for families, they mean the world.
