We want to help
Lonnie Nicholson, CEO, EECU, presents a check for $50,000 to Veronica Tolley, assistant vice president, Cook Children’s Physician Network
“I couldn’t be more proud of our team. They’re excellent at what they do, but they’re good people and they believe in giving back to the community.” – Lonnie Nicholson, CEO, EECU
In the same way that EECU is always there for its members, the credit union also goes above and beyond to be there for our patients.
Throughout the years, EECU has supported Cook Children’s through in-kind donation drives, hosting patient activities and with financial donations through a variety of fundraising initiatives. EECU’s position as a leader in the Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions has inspired other credit unions to join Credit Unions for Kids.
“The number one thing for us is to help contribute to the health of the kids in our community, and the parents that have to go through the difficulties that those kids face,” said Lonnie Nicholson, CEO of EECU.
Over time, the team at EECU began looking for additional ways to support our patients. The EECU Community Foundation annual golf tournament raised a combined $100,000 in 2022 and 2023 for Cook Children’s Neighborhood Clinics. Additionally, they looked for more opportunities to be involved. Lonnie said Cook Children’s Radiothon was exactly what his team was looking for.
“Our team at EECU was fully engaged in the relationship [with Cook Children’s] and wanted to support the greater good,” Lonnie said. “Radiothon is a natural extension of that. It’s a way for our team to participate in a physical way. We’re on-site doing something that supports a worthy cause.”
As the presenting sponsor for Cook Children’s Radiothon, a two-day live broadcast on 99.5 The Wolf and New Country 96.3, EECU offers more than financial support. Its employees volunteer to answer calls in the phone bank, helping radio listeners become donors.
“We don’t even have to ask for volunteers,” Lonnie said. “Our employees always ask, ‘When is Radiothon? We want to help with the phone banks?’ People have lined up to say, ‘We believe in this, and we want to support it.’”
Lonnie and EECU are passionate about serving others.
“It is one of the most rewarding relationships that I’m involved in,” Lonnie said. “I’m glad to know that we’re contributing to all of the great things that Cook Children’s does for children and parents and the community.”
