Blue Peaks Giving Circle provides bare necessities to most at-risk children
Unfortunately, not every parent has access to reliable health care for their children. That’s why Cook Children’s Neighborhood Health Centers provide care that is close to home, at a cost well below the typical emergency department visit for Tarrant County’s most at-risk children.
Many of the patients seen at neighborhood clinics have socioeconomic needs, which can impact their health.
“Oftentimes, our families come to us from very challenging places with needs that extend beyond traditional medical care,” said Christina Reed, director of operations of Cook Children’s Neighborhood Health Centers. “Our mission calls us to look beyond those medical needs and ensure that we are treating the whole child, the whole family and the whole community.”
That’s where Blue Peaks Giving Circle at Cook Children’s comes in. Blue Peaks is a group of donors who are focused on collaborative philanthropy and combining their funds to make a greater impact than one can achieve alone.
After hearing that the clinics continually saw those in their communities struggle, Blue Peaks members selected the neighborhood clinics as the beneficiary to meet their greatest needs by providing basic items for parents to take home, including diapers, baby wipes and sleep sacks. The drive is an effort to connect these needs with tangible resources.
“These are the necessities that parents often take for granted, and we are thankful to be able to help provide for those less fortunate in our community,” said Christal Miller, Blue Peaks member. “Our small preschool had great participation from both families and teachers, which is a testament to the caring nature of our school.”
Blue Peaks members identified collection sites throughout Fort Worth to allow the community to come together. Several local elementary, middle and high schools, as well as Game On Arena Sports and Game On Sports Complex, have supported the 2022 and 2023 Necessities Drives—which resulted in the collection of thousands of critical items for parents with infants.
“Through giving from our Blue Peaks partners and the Necessities Drive, we are able to get one step closer to meeting our families where they are and ensuring that each child and family we serve has a medical home equipped to meet all of their needs,” said Christina.
The Necessities Drive is just one way the Blue Peaks Giving Circle is meeting immediate needs across our health care system. This unique organization allows members to multiply the impact of their donations simply by adding them together. The sum of all member gifts is then divided between the Blue Peaks Giving Circle Endowment and the Blue Peaks Giving Circle Fund.
Members decide where to spend the funds by voting at the annual Give Dinner. With a wide variety of membership levels and support, Blue Peaks Giving Circle is the perfect way for passionate advocates and supporters to come together to make a lasting impact on the future of Cook Children’s.
