You make music that heals

The baby was anxious and agitated. Born premature, this sweet young life was off to a tumultuous start, having been exposed to drugs in utero. He was already in the foster care system.

When music therapist, Katie, entered his NICU room, our tiny patient was so restless his care team was unable to provide treatment. This prolonged irritability is common in babies born with drug-dependance. Katie decided to meet him, in that moment, with a song.

Gently singing his name and other soothing lullabies, Katie eased the room into a state of calm serenity. The little one began to make eye contact, smile and was calm enough to participate in his occupational therapy.

“Exposing our NICU babies to positive sounds is so important for their development to counteract the many unpleasant environmental noises they hear like beeping machines.” Katie says.

Your giving makes healing music every day at Cook Children’s. Thank you for your continued support.
