Fabulous Faith 5K
Faith Lautzenheiser was a 10-year-old girl who was known for her joyful personality and kind spirit. Sadly, Faith left this world far too soon after fighting a 10-month battle with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.
When Faith passed away in 2013, her family began thinking of ways to honor her life. They ultimately created the Fabulous Faith's Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for the Child Life programs and research programs within Cook Children's Hematology and Oncology Center. They have also supported Cook Children's hair and nail salon, Mirror Mirror.
Two years after Faith passed away, the inaugural Fabulous Faith 5K took place. In addition to raising funds, the event helps honor other children battling cancer and raises awareness of the continued need to find a cure.
"The goal of the event is for people to leave differently than how they came," said Ruth, Faith's mom. "We want their hearts to change and we want them to be informed about pediatric cancer."
The Fabulous Faith 5K has raised more than $100,000 to date. Ruth encourages others to create their own community partner event, not only to support Cook Children's, but to honor their own children and family.
"Cook Children's has so many staff members with good servant hearts. We would choose them all over again. Not only did they treat Faith well, they also took care of our entire family."
