Teaming up for more cheer
The Luka Doncic Foundation creates magic for our NICU families
When the purposes of two organizations align, their impact amplifies, creating ripples of positive change. We are grateful to collaborate with groups like the Luka Doncic Foundation (LDF), whose mission, like ours, is to improve the health and well-being of children.
Last December, through the generosity of the LDF, we created extra holiday magic for the patient families in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“The holiday season can be overwhelming and stressful for families with newborns in the NICU,” said Brittany McLaughlin, director of the NICU at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. “We’re incredibly grateful for all the donors who partner with us to bring holiday cheer to our patients and families.”
Along with treats and gifts, a local knitting club distributed hand-knit hats and blankets to the families of approximately 97 babies in the NICU. Mothers received gift cards for manicures and pedicures at Cook Children’s Mirror Mirror Hair & Nail Salon and a photographer captured family portraits. Doncic’s foundation also provided financial support to NICU families needing assistance paying mortgages or rent, utility bills, car payments and more.
“Christmas around Cook Children’s is a light in a dark time, and this event brought so much joy to NICU families,” said Suzanne Miller, a NICU parent. “This was such a thoughtful event that brought families together. We were able to visit with other parents going through similar situations, share our stories and form new friendships.”
A new holiday season will sneak up on us soon. You, too, can bring holiday joy to Cook Children’s! By becoming a Wonderland sponsor, you can partner with us to bring the magic of the holiday season to patients, families and staff. This program allows our local business community to sponsor light displays, patient parties and so much more.
